Internet Desk: Defending Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton emerged as the champion of Monaco GP, getting the better of Daniel Ricciardo for his first win of the season.Sergio Perez gave Force India its first podium finish this F1 season. Mexican Perez finished third ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari at the Monaco GP on Sunday.

Hamilton had not won for the past eight races, but he pulled ahead after Ricciardo came in on lap 33 for ultra-soft tires only to have his Red Bull pit crew not ready. It cost him valuable time and he came out behind Hamilton.

Ricciardo was close to overtaking Hamilton on lap 37. But Hamilton held his line at the Mirabeau turn, prompting an angry reaction from Ricciardo, who waved his hand furiously as he was forced to back off.

While Hamilton’s stop went smoothly Red Bull weren’t ready when Ricciardo arrived one lap later, the team blaming a miscommunication that left their driver sitting in the pits waiting for his tyres to arrive.

It felt like an eternity but the wait was only a few seconds – enough to allow Hamilton to narrowly regain the lead.

Despite several attempts, including one investigated by the stewards, Ricciardo was unable to find a way back past the Mercedes and watched helplessly as a weekend he’d dominated turned into a Hamilton victory.

The next race is the Canadian Grand Prix on June 12.
