Goals from Jeje Lalpekhlua (18') and Yusa Katsumi (77') were cancelled out by a brace from Uilliams Bomfin (40', 90'+5'). The Green and Maroon brigade with this draw are themselves making it difficult to defend their I-league championship crown. The Mariners took the lead in the 18th minute through Jeje. Pritam Kotal delivered a pass for Cornell Glen but the out-of-form striker missed it and it went through instead for the Indian international who carefully slotted it inside the nets. The striker had yet another chance to get his lines just before the half hour mark though. Pritam's cross from the right flank was inch perfect for Glen but the Trinidadian's poor header never looked like finding the back of the net as another chance went wasted. Uilliams nearly scored another free-kick in first-half added time after Kinshuk pushed him down just outside the box. His attempt was much better than the one he scored with but it crashed off the top post as the two teams went into the break level at 1-1. Bagan looked desperate to get the insurance goal to take lead in the match and made frequent attacks towards the goal. The jinx broke in the 78th minute through a Katsumi Yusa. The skipper cut onto his right foot and pushed in a low drive towards Vishal Kaith's near post and the ball managed to slide into the back of the net. Lajong kept plugging away though and got their reward in the fifth minute of injury time. Uilliams towered over Luciano as the duo challenge for a ball into the box and the Brazilian guided his header past Debjit to spark wild celebrations in Shillong. Debjit looked out of his golden touch since the derby where he fumbled a lot. Mohun Bagan need to pull up their socks fast to remain as title contenders. The draw saw Lajong move into fourth place above Sporting Clube de Goa while Bagan remain first with 26 points but Bengaluru FC (25) and East Bengal (23) both have two games in hand.
