Mohammad Shami reaches Australia; will join Indian squad in Brisbane | T20 World Cup 2022

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India pace spearhead Mohammed Shami has reached Australia for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Shami arrived at Brisbane and will be joined by other members of Indian squad on Friday. He posted a few pictures in flight on his instagram handle as he travelled from Bengaluru to Brisbane. The fast bowler from Amroha recently cleared cardio vascular test at the National Cricket Academy after having recovered from Covid-19.

Shami is likely to replace Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back injury. The 32-year-old pacer hasn’t played a T20I match for India since the Namibia game during last year’s T20 World Cup in UAE. But an injury to Bumrah and Deepak Chahar, has opened the doors for him to get selected in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup

The selectors will make the formal announcement soon. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur has also travelled to Brisbane on Wednesday. BCCI has to submit the final squad to the ICC by October 15. The official deadline i.e, October 9 for naming the replacement is over. However, BCCI could still name a replacement with special dispensation from ICC by October 15.

Meanwhile, the India team will play their second practice match against Western Australia XI on October 13 at the WACA. They will travel to Brisbane on October 14. The Men in Blue will take on Australia and New Zealand in official warm-up games on October 17 and 19 respectively before they kickstart their campaign against arch rivals Pakistan on October 23 at MCG.
