Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian test opener Rohit Sharma on Saturday reached quite a few milestones on his way to scoring his sixth test ton at Ranchi. The Hitman scored his third hundred of the ongoing test series against South Africa. Rohit launched into Proteas off spinner Dane Piedt as he hit him into the long off stands for his hundred. He took 131 balls to reach the three figure mark and was studded with 13 fours and three sixes. In reaching his third hundred of the series the Hitman has reached quite a few milestones. It includes:

Milestone 1: Rohit Sharma equalled former captains MS Dhoni and MAK Pataudi on the list of most hundreds in Test cricket by India batsman. While MS Dhoni had hit 6 hundreds in 90 Tests, Rohit Sharma has got to the landmark in just his 30th Test.

Milestone 2: With the 3rd hundred of the ongoing series vs South Africa, Rohit Sharma has become only the 2nd Indian opener after batting great Sunil Gavaskar to score 3 or more Test hundreds in a series. Gavaskar had done so thrice in his Test career.

Milestone 3: Rohit also broke the record for the most number of sixes in a Test series, previously Shimron Hetmyer (15). Rohit got to his 6th Test hundred with a six in Dane Piedt’s over and took his tally for the series to 16.
