XtraTime Web Desk: The apex council of Mumbai Cricket Association on Tuesday unanimously decided to name the North Stand of Wankhede stadium after former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar. Vengsarkar will be joining former greats of Mumbai like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar in having a stand named after him at the Wankhede.

The former India batsman was a pillar of strength in Indian batting line up during his time. Vengsarkar has represented the country in 116 tests scoring 6868 runs at an average of 42.1. He scored 17 hundreds and 35 fifties as well. The 64 year old cricketer from Mumbai has also played 129 ODI’s scoring 3508 runs at an average of 34.7.

MCA's Apex Council member Nadim Memon proposed the idea of having a stand in the name of Vengsarkar earlier this month.
