XtraTime Web Desk – After a poor start in the La Liga, times were changing for the club domestically. However, when everyone thought Barcelona will be the favourites to win the final based on their recent form but the fans are heavily disappointed as their ‘King’ Lionel Messi saw a red card and then Barcelona lost the Super Cup Final.

This is not how Barcelona would’ve wanted to start their new year. However, Barca striked first in the match. Antoine Griezmann scored in the 40th minute but Oscar De Marcos scored in the 42nd minute to bring Athletic Club Bilbao level just before the half-time.

Griezmann completed his brace in the 77th minute and just in the dying minutes, Asier Villalibre equalised for Bilbao. Surely without Gerard Pique in the defence, Barcelona failed to maintain their defensive line.

The match went into extra time and Inaki Williams scored the crucial goal in the 93rd minute. Athletic club went ahead for the first time in the match and Barcelona couldn’t come back. More so, their number 10, Lionel Messi saw a red card in the 119th minute. This is Lionel Messi’s first red card in 753 appearance for Barcelona and the night was a pathetic one for the Catalonians. They lost the Super Cup Final 3-2 and failed to win a title in many months now.
