Ligue 1: Marseille gets the better of PSG in Le Classique marred with 5 red cards, Neymar makes racism claims

XtraTime Web Desk: In one of the fiercest rivalry on the soccer field, Marseille handed Paris Saint German their second straight defeat in Ligue 1, as the reigning champions lost 0-1 at Parc Des Princes on Sunday. It was the first defeat for PSG since November 2011. As many as 17 cards were produced including 5 sent offs by the referee.

The game was on the verge of boiling over at several stages of the game, but things finally tipped over the edge in stoppage time as five players were sent off: Marseille’s Dario Benedetto and Jordan Amavi, as well as PSG’s Leandro Paredes, Layvin Kurwaza and, after a VAR review, Neymar.

Paredes fouled Benedetto after he kicked the ball away to prevent a quick free-kick, which was swiftly followed by Amavi and Kurwaza engaging in fisticuffs. On the outskirts of the scuffle, Neymar, who had been arguing with Marseille centre-back Alvaro Gonzalez just minutes earlier, decided to hit the Spaniard on the back of the head. Both Neymar and Alvaro had heated exchanges throughout the match, with the two almost coming close to fighting with each other around the half hour mark.

As Naymar went off the pitch after being sent off, he told the fourth official that Alvaro had made a racist comment towards him.

Florian Thauvin scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute. A deep Marseille free-kick was guided towards Sergio Rico’s far post and Thuavin simply kept his eyes on the ball before firing a first-time left-footed volley into the bottom right corner.
