Xtra Time Web Desk: MS Dhoni’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee wants him to continue playing as long his body can take the pressure. The veteran coach also feels everyone should respect Dhoni’s decision as and when he calls it a day.

“That (retirement) is his personal decision. If he takes such a decision, we must all respect it,” said Keshav Banerjee to Xtra Time.

Well, there has been speculation about Dhoni’s retirement from IPL since the start of the ongoing season. Everywhere Chennai Super Kings are travelling, the stadium in that city if turned into a sea of yellow. Recently former CSK batter Suresh Raina has claimed about Dhoni will not retire after the IPL 2023 as he wants to continue playing for another season after winning the ongoing edition.

As far as an official announcement is concerned, both CSK management and Dhoni has remained tight-lipped on the subject.

According to Keshav Banerjee, “His father and mother will not know when decides to hang up his boots. Dhoni has always taken a decision suddenly. Beyond anyone’s guess.”

The Chennai Super Kings talisman has demoted himself in the batting order, giving rise to a debate. But Keshav Banerjee supports Dhoni’s decision.

“Cricket is a team game. One needs to promote a player who he feels can contribute. No problem if he (Dhoni) goes at No 8,” said Banerjee.

Finally, Keshav Banerjee wants to see Dhoni associated with Indian cricket. It will entirely depend on what BCCI hierarchy feels.

“Cricketer should always be associated with cricket. I cannot tell him (Dhoni) to join politics. Hope BCCI will use him,” Keshav Banerjee said.
