Xtra Time Web Desk: Former Delhi Capitals coach Pravin Amre has shared his thoughts on Prithvi Shaw's fall from grace after the young batter failed to attract any bids in the IPL auction. Amre expressed disappointment over Shaw's wasted potential, emphasizing that his case could serve as a cautionary tale in Indian cricket.

Speaking after the auction, Amre stated, "It’s so disappointing to see a talent like him going in the reverse direction. Even today, he has the ability to score a 30-ball fifty in the IPL. But maybe he couldn’t handle the glamour and money — the side effects of the IPL. Talent alone isn’t enough; discipline, determination, and dedication are crucial."

Amre revealed that he had previously warned Shaw about the dangers of early success, drawing parallels with the career of Vinod Kambli. "Three years ago, I gave him Kambli’s example. Earning Rs 30-40 crore by 23 is unheard of. Even an IIM graduate doesn’t make that kind of money. When you earn so much so early, focus becomes a challenge," he explained.

Amre, however, sees Shaw’s IPL snub as an opportunity for reflection. "This could be an eye-opener for him. He’s just 25 and still has age on his side. I hope he takes this positively and works on himself," he added.

Former Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammed Kaif also weighed in, criticizing Shaw’s lack of consistency. Speaking on Jio Cinema, Kaif remarked that Shaw should feel embarrassed about being overlooked in the auction.

“Delhi Capitals backed Shaw a lot. He was seen as a powerplay player capable of hitting multiple boundaries in an over — and he did that, like when he smashed Shivam Mavi for six fours in an over. But despite consistent chances, he couldn’t cement his place,” Kaif said.

Shaw's IPL journey now hangs in the balance, with both Amre and Kaif urging him to use this setback as motivation to reignite his career.
