Xtra Time Web Desk: Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel is making a smooth transition into his role as India's bowling coach during their ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. Once a fierce competitor against India, Morkel now finds himself contributing to the team’s success from the coaching perspective, and his tenure began with a commendable performance from the Indian bowlers in the opening Test.

Reflecting on his experience, Morkel expressed his excitement, stating, "What a wonderful week. I have always played against India and followed India after my playing days. It's wonderful to be in this environment and see how the guys operate." Jasprit Bumrah’s four-wicket haul in the first innings, complemented by Ravichandran Ashwin’s six-wicket haul in the second, highlighted India’s dominance in Chennai.

Morkel sees his role as crucial in preparing the next generation of Indian bowlers for future challenges, especially with more five-Test series on the horizon. "There is a lot of experience in this dressing room, but for the guys coming in, it's essential to ensure they fit in and evolve. They need to start thinking about setting goals," he said, emphasizing the importance of setting objectives for young bowlers.

He believes in creating a nurturing environment where young players like Akash Deep and Vikram Dayal can grow. "Once you allow them the space to learn and make mistakes, it creates a great environment," Morkel added.

With Morkel’s experience and mentoring approach, India’s bowling attack looks set to build on its strengths in the upcoming matches.
