Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed his opinion that Gautam Gambhir would make a good coach for the Indian cricket team if he has indeed applied for the position. This comes amidst reports that Gambhir has shown interest in taking up the head coach role, with internal discussions ongoing within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Gambhir recently demonstrated his coaching acumen by mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title. KKR secured a dominant victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), winning by 8 wickets in the final held at the M Chidambaram Stadium on May 26, Sunday.

While speaking at the inauguration of the International Procurement and Supply Chain Conference, Ganguly showcased his favour towards the team having an Indian coach.

"I am in favour of an Indian coach. If he has applied, Gambhir will be a good coach," Ganguly said.

In a statement a few days ago, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also hinted that an Indian coach would be preferred.

"Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks," Shah said.
