Xtra Time Web Desk: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was handed his first slow over rate penalty in the Indian Premier League on March 23, Wednesday. The Titans captain was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during his side’s first away match of the season against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.

It was a day of firsts for Gill as the rising star suffered his first defeat as the captain of GT along with the fine of Rs 12 lakh. Since it was only his first slow over rate offence, he was handed a fine. A captain would face a one-match ban if a team is found guilty of maintaining slow over-rate for the second time in the same season.

An IPL statement says, "As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined Rs 12 lakhs".

The 2022 season champions lost to defending champions CSK by 63 runs in a one-sided contest at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23.
