Xtra Time Web Desk: Shubman Gill emphasized a fresh mindset ahead of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane, stating that the team views the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a new three-match series. India, after a dominant 295-run victory in Perth, suffered a heavy 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide, leaving the series evenly poised.

Speaking on the eve of the Brisbane Test, Gill acknowledged the disappointment of the Adelaide loss but highlighted the team's renewed focus and positive morale.

“The mood in the camp is very good. We had a lively team dinner last night. While the Adelaide Test didn’t go our way, we’re approaching the rest of the series as a fresh start. Winning this match will give us the upper hand heading into Melbourne and Sydney,” Gill said.

Gill’s remarks reflect a strategy reminiscent of India’s historic 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy win. After their infamous collapse in Adelaide during that series, India adopted a similar approach, treating the remainder as a three-Test battle.

Former hero Hanuma Vihari shared insights on that mindset, saying, “We decided to forget Adelaide and focus on winning the rest. That positive thinking paid off.”

Nostalgic return to Gabba

Returning to the Gabba brought a wave of nostalgia for Gill and his teammates, including Rishabh Pant. Their stellar performances in 2021—Gill’s 91 and Pant’s unbeaten 89—helped India breach Australia’s Gabba fortress, chasing down 328 in a historic victory.

“Walking through the Gabba felt very nostalgic. This venue holds special memories for us. The wicket seems promising, and we’re excited to play,” Gill added.

India and Australia will resume their fierce rivalry on Saturday, with India aiming to rewrite the narrative in the ongoing series. The fourth Test begins on Boxing Day in Melbourne, followed by the New Year’s Test in Sydney.
