Xtra Time Web Desk:  Virat Kohli acknowledged his inconsistent performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Speaking to the broadcasters, Kohli admitted to lacking discipline on the livelier Australian pitches, which impacted his batting form.

The Indian ex skipper began the series with a brilliant century in Perth but has since managed only 26 runs in his last four innings, with scores of 5, 100*, 7, 11, and 3. Reflecting on India’s position in the series, tied at 1-1, Kohli expressed satisfaction and outlined his focus for the MCG Test.

“Expectations are always there when playing for your country and performing consistently over the years. What matters is sticking to your game plan and focusing on the team’s needs. The conditions have been challenging, and I haven’t been disciplined enough in recent innings. Test cricket demands adapting to such situations, and I aim to grind it out and capitalize on opportunities,” Kohli said.

India has historically performed well at the MCG, winning back-to-back Tests in 2018 and 2020. Kohli emphasized the team's resilience, particularly in Brisbane, where India avoided a follow-on and secured a draw.

“We’ve played great cricket here before, and this Test is an opportunity to step up. The series is wide open, and both teams will bring their best. Our ability to show character in tough moments, like in Brisbane, gives us confidence heading into this match,” he added.

India will aim to leverage their solid record at the MCG and take a decisive lead in the series before the SCG Test.
