Xtra Time Web Desk: Cheteshwar Pujara has proposed a strategic shift for Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, starting December 14 at the Gabba. Pujara believes Rohit should bat at No. 6, prioritizing India's long-term prospects.

Rohit, who missed the first Test, struggled in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide, managing only 9 runs across two innings. He fell prey to Scott Boland and Pat Cummins, highlighting issues with deliveries targeting his off and middle stumps.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Pujara advised Rohit to refine his technique, suggesting a more pronounced front-foot stride to tackle Australia's bowling conditions.

"He has been under pressure with recent performances. Against New Zealand, he didn’t score much, and his start in Australia has been shaky. A bigger stride could help, especially in this environment," Pujara said.

Pujara also emphasized the need for Rohit to relinquish his opener’s spot for KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who impressed in the first Test. "Rahul and Jaiswal showed their potential in Perth, combining for 200 runs. Shubman Gill is likely to anchor at No. 3, which sets up a strong foundation for India's future," he added.

India and Australia are locked at 1-1 in the series. After a commanding 295-run win in the first Test, India faltered in the second, succumbing to a 10-wicket loss in Adelaide due to poor batting displays.

The Brisbane Test, starting at 5:50 AM IST on December 14, will serve as a crucial decider in this fiercely contested series.
