Xtra Time Web Desk: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated that he did not approach any Australian candidates for the role of head coach of the Indian national cricket team. This clarification comes amid media reports claiming that the BCCI had contacted two-time World Cup-winning Australian captain Ricky Ponting for the position. Shah emphasized that the BCCI is following a meticulous process to find the right candidate, as current head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure is set to end after the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). The BCCI has invited applications for the head coach position, with the application deadline set for May 27 at 6 PM.

“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer. The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect. Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks. It's crucial that our coach has an in-depth knowledge of our domestic cricket framework to truly elevate Team India to the next level,” Jay Shah said in a statement.
