Kolkata: The City of Joy is all set to host its first ‘Beach Football’ which is set to start from May 10. In association with Beach Sports Association the beach football will be played at Newtown’s NKDA Stadium on an artificial beach turf.
Ahead of the grand carnival a press conference was held today. 16 teams will take part in this tournament and among them 10 teams will be from West Bengal. The Secretary of the Beach Sports Association Arijit Mukherjee said,” Here at the NKDA Stadium we have a sitting capacity of 500 people and it will be a league & knock-out tournament.” The tournament will end on May 13. Earlier the tournament was scheduled to be played at Tajpur but due to some legal issues it has shifted to Kolkata.
The Association’s Chief Patron Madan Mitra looked really happy as Kolkata is hosting this kind of a tournament for the first.” After this we want to organize beach football for women as well. We also have plans to organize beach volleyball as well,” said Madan Mitra.
