Xtra Time Web Desk: Reigning champions Real Madrid and Barcelona suffered shock defeats in their respective La Liga games on Saturday. Zinedine Zidane’s side was humbled at home by newly promoted Cadiz while Barca lost against Getafe.

Honduran forward Anthony Lozano put Cadiz ahead in the 16th minute, as he squeezed past Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane to meet a cushioned header from Alvaro Negredo and lifting the ball over keeper Thibaut Courtois into the net. It was Real’s first defeat in La Liga in over seven months.

In another La Liga encounter, Barcelona too suffered their first defeat of the season, losing to Getafe. Jaime Mata scored the only goal of the match from penalty in the 56th minute. This was also the first defeat of Ronald Koeman as Barca manager. The home side was awarded a penalty after Frenkie de Jong fouled Dakonam Djene inside the box. It was a frustrating night for the Catalans as their captain Lionel Messi hit the post in the first half.

The win see Getafe rise to No 2 spot on points table behind Real Madrid while Barcelona find themselves lingering in 9th spot in the table, although it is too early in the season to draw any conclusions.
