XtraTime Web Desk: A strike from Casemiro at the stroke of half time gave Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Espanyol in La Liga at RCDE stadium on Sunday night. This was the fifth consecutive win for Zinedine Zidane’s side since the restart of the league after the pandemic. The win took Real Madrid to 71 points from 32 games, two points clear of second placed Barcelona who is on 69 points.

Karim Benzema was behind the only goal scored by the Los Blancos in the away match. The Frenchman played a perfect bakheel that went through the legs of Espanyol defender Bernardo and into the path of Casemiro's left foot for a 1-0 lead. It was Benzema's seventh assist in LaLiga this season to go with his 17 goals. With six more rounds to go, it is clear advantage for the side from Madrid as there is no direct meeting with Barcelona between now and end of the season, but both teams have some tough fixtures still to come. Real Madrid has couple of difficult games coming up against Getafe and Athletic while Barcelona hosts Atletico Madrid and travel to Villareal in their next two encounters.
