XtraTime Web Desk – 2020 is a very unpredictable year and when it comes to football, it is surprising us every now and then. Real Madrid was having a good campaign in the La Liga but was thrashed 4-1 by Valencia on Sunday.

Valencia was a strong team but they sold many of their star players to cope up with the Covid 19 situation. Thus, the team wasn’t the same like last few years. Thus what everyone expected was happening. Real Madrid took the lead in the 23rd minute with a goal from Karim Benzema. However, the lead wasn’t for a long time as Carlos Soler scored his first goal from a penalty in the 35th minute. Just when Real Madrid was trying to show some intent, Varane’s own goal killed Real Madrid’s momentum just before half-time.

In the second half, another penalty was awarded to Valencia because of a mistake from Marcelo. Again, Carlos Soler didn’t make a mistake and Valencia was leading 3-1 at 54th minute.

The misery continued for Real Madrid as they gave away another penalty in the 63rd minute. By now, 3 of their defenders, Sergio Ramos, Lucas Vasquez & Marcelo gave away 1 penalty each and another defender Varane scored an own goal. Carlos Soler again scored from the penalty in the 63rd minute and completed his hat-trick.

Real Madrid lost the match 4-1. Casemiro’s absence was very prominent and Real Madrid needs to find someone who can replace Casemiro in his absence. With this poor performance from their defense, Real Madrid now stands at 4th position in the league with 16 points on-board.

In other La Liga matches, Atletico Madrid thrashed Cadiz CF 4-0, Villarreal beat Getafe 3-1, Real Sociedad beat Granada 2-0, Real Valladolid beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1. Levante and Deportivo Alavés settled with a 1-1 draw.
