Internet Desk: India’s star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has reached to a new high in the latest Badminton Singles rankings. After his back to back title wins in the Indonesia Open Super Series and Australian Open Super Series, Srikanth gained three places in the latest rankings to reach the 8th spot.

Earlier on Sunday, Srikanth outclassed Olympic gold medalist Chen Long in a nail biting contest to clinch the Australian Open Super Series men’s singles title. Srikanth won the tie in straight games 22-20, 21-16 to win his fourth Super Series title.

Srikanth who made it to the final of the Singapore Open couple of months back and won the Indonesia Open before this Super Series has become the fifth shuttler in the history of badminton to reach the three back to back Super Series finals.

Kidambi earlier beat current World No.1 Son Wan Ho in the second round to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Super Series. That was his second back to back victory over the South Korean international in two weeks.

Couple of days ago Srikanth has credited all his success to present national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand. He further added that all the good things that have been happening in Indian badminton are just because of Gopichand.

“I think he is the man behind all the success of badminton today here what we have. If he wouldn’t have become a coach after he quit his playing career, all this wouldn’t have been possible. So whatever we have today and whatever we will have in the next generations, it will be all because of him,” said Srikanth on Tuesday while addressing the media.

“Thanks to Gopi sir . He was the one who really started coaching seriously in India, who always thought India has the potential to be a world beater in badminton. His role would be very important in the coming years as well.”
