Internet Desk : Sri Lankan U’19 cricketer Kamindu Mendis has grabbed the eyeballs in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup after he bowled with both the hands in the match against Pakistan . Mendis has already bagged four wickets in three matches.
Mendis came to bowl in the 27th over of the match. Kamindu started to bowl left hand orthodox to right hand batsmen Hasan Mohsin and Umair Masood. However he switched over to left hand when he bowled to left hand batsman Salman Fayyaz when he came in to bat.
Mendis is originally left handed and bats at no 3 position. He scored a steady 68 against Pakistan although his team lost the match. He picked three wickets in Sri Lanka’s victory over Afghanistan.
Earlier Vidarbha player Akshay Karnewar has bowled similarly against Baroda during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Baroda. The 23-year-old, bowled left-arm spin to Hardik pandya and switched over to right-arm against Irfan Pathan .
There was another instance of an ambidextrous cricketer bowling in 1958. In a match between West Indies and Pakistan at the Sabina Park former Pakistan cricketer Hanif Mohammad started to bowl right arm off spin. He changed his hand while bowling the last two balls of that over.
