Jasprit Bumrah starts rehab at the NCA, Shreyas Iyer to get operated next week

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a huge relief for Indian team management, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has joined the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to start his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery in Christchurch. The fast bowler is on track to be available for the 2023 World Cup, slated to be held in India in October-November.

Team India middle order batter Shreyas Iyer, is scheduled to undergo lower-back surgery next week. Iyer will get operated in London and is expected to start his rehab after two weeks at the NCA.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday released a statement updating about the injury status of both Bumrah and Iyer.

“Mr Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free,” said Jay Shah, the board secretary, in a statement. “The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Mr Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru from Friday.

“Mr Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week. He will remain under the surgeon’s care for two weeks and will return to the NCA after that for rehabilitation.”

Bumrah missed the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup in 2022, and was also ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League season following a recurrence of the back injury. Iyer too is missing the ongoing Indian Premier League season for Kolkata Knight Riders. He is unlikely to be available for the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia, starting at the Oval from June 7.
