XtraTime Web Desk – Pradip Kumar Banerjee and Chuni Goswami is probably two of the biggest name in Indian football. Not only did they make every Bengali proud, but made every Indian football lover proud of their achievements.

SC East Bengal sent a letter to IFA few days back requesting whether they can honour and pay tribute to these legends during their first match against ATK Mohun Bagan. Kushal Das, the secretary of All India football federation on Saturday confirmed that indeed they are going to honour the legends. Mr. Kushal Das said, “We are definitely going to honour them. There will be a minute of silence to honour them. We are talking to the production team on how this will be carried out but it’s definitely going to happen”.

Mr. Das further added, “We have sent all the pictures. We have sent the pictures that we have in the archives. It’s confirmed that there will be minute of silence to pay tribute to them”.

Mr. Das however confirmed that the timing of this is not decided as of now. “The exact time, whether it’ll happen before the match or during the halftime has not been finalized. The production team is deciding that”.

“Pradip Da and Chuni Da are the icons of Indian football. It’s very important for us to pay tribute to them and we will do it.”, Mr. Kushal Das said.

Kalyan Majumdar, the secretary of East Bengal club said, “Everyone agreed to this, so we are extremely delighted. We feel Indian football will be very proud after honouring them”.

Joydeep Mukherjee, the secretary of Indian Football Association (IFA) said, “East Bengal club sent us a letter few days back. They wanted to honour the legends. They wanted to pay respect to PK Banerjee and Chuni Goswami by maintaining a minute of silence before the match and if by any how we can display their image. I had a word with Kushal Das and sent a letter to FSDL. It’ll be a big thing for Bengal Football. We always want the legends from Bengal to get the proper highlight and get well deserved respect”.

The likes of PK Banerjee and Chuni Goswami made what East Bengal and Mohun Bagan is today. Thus, paying respect during a Derby match will be a perfect way to honour their legacy.
