ISL: Antonio Lopez Habas appointed as FC Pune City head coach

Internet Desk: FC Pune City announced the signing of Antonio Lopez Habas as their head coach for the third season of the Indian Super League (ISL), on Monday. Habas, who was associated with Atletico de Kolkata for the first two seasons of the ISL will now officially take charge of the Deccan side. The Spaniard will replace Englishman and former Manchester City assistant coach, David Platt.

Speaking at his appointment, Antonio Habas pointed it was that the professionalism with which the club is being run is was what convinced him to move to the Maharashtra-based franchise. FC Pune City Co-owner Hrithik Roshan hopes that Habas’ appointment will help them win the ISL season three.

Habas led Atletico de Kolkata to ISL glory in the opening season of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters in the final. The Sourav Ganguly co-owned franchise managed to make their way to the semi-finals under his tutelage, but were knocked out by Marco Materazzi’s Chennaiyin FC in 2015.

According to sources, Apoula Edel Bete has been also roped by FC Pune City as their goalkeeper who played under Habas for ATK in the opening edition of the ISL before he shifted colours and joined Chennayin FC last season.
