Xtra Time Web Desk : The century-old football club, SC East Bengal is currently seeing quite a difficult time on the pitch as the torchbearers are yet to register a win in season eight of the Indian Super League. Last season, which was their debut in the ISL then also they had faced a similar crisis as they didn’t win a single match in their first seven matches.

However, this time it has already been eight matches and the Red and Gold army is yet to see their team win a single match. It is true that the club faced a financial crisis early this year but as it was resolved, East Bengal made quite a number of good signings (most of them on loan) to challenge for the ISL title this season.
But the plan seems not to work as Manolo Diaz & Co have been struggling big time this season.

The Red and Gold in their last eight matches have lost four and drawn four and following that the club is sitting last in the league table collecting only four points.

So, what is going wrong for a club with such a big history, at first East Bengal missed their experienced goalkeeper and captain, Arindam Bhattacharya due to injury which gave the opposition side to score a few goals in his absence. While the Torchbearers have quite a good defense with the likes of Tomislav Mrcela, Franjo Prce, Hira Mandal, and Raju Gaikwad all with a lot of experience. But combining together they have failed to deliver performance and a clean sheet most of the time.

Moving up to the midfield it is only Mohammed Rafique who’s name could be heard most of the time during the match, while he is also quite good at helping the defense and moving the ball forward. But the man needs support in the mid to do more jobs which are currently lacking.

Lastly, the goal scorers in the team, the forward line has been lacking in terms of scoring goals with the main striker, Daniel Chima Chukwu struggling in the opposition half to convert the chances in goals. However, right-winger, Antonio Perosevic has done quite well in his part but he needs support from his team.

A game of football cannot be won by an individual performance but with a team performance, in which East Bengal needs to work harder before it’s too late to again finish bottom of the table
