LSG new sensation Mayank Yadav sets new benchmark

Xtra Time Web Desk: Mayank Yadav, a newbie fast bowler, set a new record for the fastest delivery of the Indian Premier League 2024 on Saturday, March 30th. Playing for Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the 21-year-old troubled the Punjab batters with his raw pace, clocking an impressive 155.8 kilometres per hour in his second over against Punjab. This feat surpassed Nandre Burger of Rajasthan, who previously held the record.

Despite missing the buildup to the IPL while representing Delhi in the domestic season, Mayank showcased his talent and impact on March 30th. He swiftly dismissed Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh when his team needed crucial breakthroughs during the second innings of the game. Mayank's bowling started with a delivery at 147 kilometres per hour, progressively building up his momentum. His skiddy style brought significant challenges for Bairstow, resulting in the batter's dismissal as he attempted a shot against a short delivery.

Prior to the start of the 2024 season, LSG all-rounder Krunal Pandya had highlighted Mayank as one to watch out for in the tournament, praising his exceptional pace and potential. LSG head coach Justin Langer had expressed confidence in Mayank's abilities, emphasizing his belief that the team possessed enough firepower to compensate for the absence of England's Mark Wood.

Langer said ahead of the season, "We also have Shamar Joseph, we have Mayank who bowls with very good pace. Hopefully we can replace, not [Wood's] experience, but his pace with Shamar Joseph and Mayank. He'll be missed - of course he'll be missed, he's a world-class bowler - but this is the world we live in and we will adapt and we will be OK."
