Xtra Time Web Desk: Ajinkya Rahane (61 off 27) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/20) were the stars for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they secured a convincing 7 wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 game at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. It was the first win for MS Dhoni led side in 5 years against MI at the Wankhede stadium.

Chasing 158 runs to win CSK cruised to victory with 11 balls to spare. Ajinkya Rahane, walking in to bat at No 3 played a scintillating knock of 61 runs off 27 balls. His knock was studded with seven boundaries and three sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad too chipped in with a solid 40 not out off 36 balls. Ambati Rayudu, who substituted Deepak Chahar scored an unbeaten 20 runs to guide the team home. Chahar injured his left hamstring after bowling the first over.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja once again proved to be a formidable force with the ball as the left arm spinner finished with impressive figures of 20 for 3, which included the crucial wicket of the in-form Tilak Varma. Both the Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma (21 off 13) and Ishan Kishan (32 off 21) got starts but failed to make it count. Suryakumar Yadav failed with the bat yet again as he was brilliantly caught leg-side by MS Dhoni.

Tim David played a cameo (31 off 22) towards the end as Mumbai posted 157/8 in 20 overs.

CSK’s left arm spinner Mitchell Santner also made his mark, taking 2 wickets for 28 runs, further contributing to CSK’s dominance in the spin department.

CSK will be hoping to continue their winning momentum and make it three victories in a row as they take on Rajasthan Royals in their next match at Chepauk on April 12.
