Xtra Time Web Desk: Chennai Super Kings’ captain, MS Dhoni, has given a major update regarding his retirement from cricket. After his team’s seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni intimated that the current Indian Premier League 2023 season would be his last.

Dhoni’s announcement has come as no surprise to many, as he hasn’t played a competitive cricket match outside the IPL since his retirement from international cricket in 2020. The 16th IPL season therefore could well be his last dance.

Dhoni expressed his gratitude towards the Chepauk crowd, who have shown him a lot of love and affection throughout his career. “Whatever said and done, last phase of my career, important to enjoy it. It feels good to be here. They (Chepauk crowd) have given a lot of love and affection. They always stay late to listen to me,” Dhoni said at the post match presentation ceremony.

During the match, Dhoni took his 208th catch to dismiss Aiden Markram, surpassing Quinton de Kock’s record in the list of most T20 catches. Dinesh Karthik, Kamran Akmal, and Denesh Ramdin follow in the standings.

Chennai Super Kings will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
