Xtra Time Web Desk : Punjab Kings all-rounder Rishi Dhawan on Monday wore a face shield while bowling against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League history for the first time ever.

Earlier than this, Andrew Ellis and Warren Barnes were the only two bowlers who wore protective gear while bowling.

Earlier, Rishi Dhawan was hit on the face by a ball on his follow through during the second round of Ranji Trophy following which he had to be taken to hospital for scans, which is why he has been seen wearing a face shield.

Dhawan, playing his first game in the IPL after a span of 6 years, was introduced to bowl for the Kings in the 5th over of the match. He also won the Vijay Hazare trophy this season for Himachal Pradesh as the team’s skipper.

Scoring 187 in the first innings, Punjab gave Ravindra Jadeja’s CSK a target of 188 to chase down in their 20 overs.
