Xtra Time Web Desk : Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday announced Faf Du Plessis as their new captain for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League 2022. The announcement came as after Virat Kohli, the former captain decided to step down from captaincy after conclusion of the last season.

Also, former skipper Virat Kohli sent a congratulatory message to his successor in the leadership role of RCB, and said, "I couldn't be happier to pass on the batton to a good friend. Someone that I've known well over the years. We've been in touch for many years now and he's one of the few guys that I've got into know a little bit more apart from cricket. And we get along very well. So absolutely excited for him to lead RCB, lead this amazing franchise and to play under him. The partnership with Faf is going to be an exciting one."

The former South Africa skipper was bought by the Bangalore franchise in the recently concluded IPL Mega auction, after he spent a long period of time playing for Chennai Super Kings.
