Xtra Time Web Desk : As the steep rise of COVID-19 continues in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly weighing up on other options to host the Indian Premier League 2022, in case the situation doesn't improve.

According to several reports, South Africa would probably be the nation to host the upcoming season or IPL, in case the COVID-19 situation doesn't improve. As reports suggest, the board aren't considering UAE as an option anymore as a result of positive reviews about the South African bio bubble from the current touring Indian contingent.

Talking about the South Africa's bio bubble facilities in an interview with The Indian Express, a BCCI official anonymously said, "The place where the team was staying for the second Test is spread over several acres. There were walking tracks and even a pond on the property and that has made things easier for the players who for the last couple of years or so have been confined to their rooms on several overseas tours,"

Also talking further about the matter, the source added, "We can’t be dependent on UAE all the time so we decided to explore more options, South Africa’s time difference also works out well for the players."

Earlier the IPL chairman Brijesh Patel on Tuesday also put forward his opinion about the matter to InsideSport and stated, "We would like to play in India but we have to see the situation, All back-up options will be discussed later. As of now, we are hosting it in India but the situation is fluid. It is too early to think about shifting it outside."

Now, with so much speculations around the marquee tournament, it would be interesting to see where the BCCI ultimately hosts the IPL 2022.
