IPL 2020: Virat Kohli calls for review on wide deliveries

Xtra Time Web Desk: A day after MS Dhoni was dragged into controversy for his alleged influence on umpire Paul Reiffel for deciding against signaling a wide delivery, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Captain Virat Kohli has called for review on wide deliveries.

Virat Kohli proposed his ideas during a conversation with Kings XI Punjab Captain KL Rahul for a promotional event.

“As a captain, I would like to have the ability to review a wide which could be a wrong call or a waist high full-toss which could be a wrong call because we have seen historically, how big these small things can be in such a high-profile tournament such as IPL and in general T20 cricket,” said Virat Kohli on being asked one rule he would like to change in T20 cricket.

Agreeing with Kohli, Rahul said: “If that rules comes it, it’s very good. You give teams two reviews and say, you can use it for whatever you want.”

The incident happened during the 19th over bowled by Shardul Thakur on Tuesday’s match between CSK and SRH. Shardul bowled a wide yorker to Rashid Khan. Umpire Paul Reiffel looked set to call it a wide as he had his hands half out. However, he changed his mind at the last moment after seeing an angry MS Dhoni protesting and decided against calling it a wide. Replays later showed that indeed the delivery should have been called a wide.
