IPL 2020: These five records can be set in this season

XtraTime Web Desk: After a long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) is eventually set to kick off on Saturday (September 19, 2020) with reigning champions Mumbai Indians taking on last year’s runners up Chennai Super Kings. This season the tournament had to be shifted to UAE because of the rising cases in India. The match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi in front of empty stands.

The records are meant to be broken and this season will be no different as we can see quite a few milestones being set. Let’s take a look at some of the records that can be set in the 13th edition of the IPL.

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli is just 100 runs short of completing 9000 T20 runs. He will become the 1st Indian cricketer to reach the landmark and the 7th overall after Chris Gayle, K Pollard, Brendon McCullum, Shoaib Malik, David Warner, and Aaron Finch.
  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni (189 matches) need four more matches this season to surpass his teammate Suresh Raina (193 matches) to become the player with most IPL appearances overall. Raina flew back from UAE from CSK’s training camp due to personal reasons.
  • Kings XI Punjab’s Chris Gayle need to hit 22 more sixes to become the first cricketer to hit 1000 sixes in T20 cricket.
  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Ravindra Jadeja is on verge of achieving a unique milestone. He will become the first player in IPL to score 2000 runs and take 100 wickets in IPL if he gets 73 more runs this season.
  • Mumbai Indian’s (MI) bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is just 18 wickets shy from becoming the first Indian bowler to reach the milestone of 200 wickets in T20’s.
