IPL 2020: Managing bio-bubble in UAE will be a lot better, says KKR’s Eoin Morgan

XtraTime Web Desk: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders got a huge sigh of relief as their star recruit Eoin Morgan has recovered from his finger injury he suffered in the 2nd T20I against Australia at the Ageas Bowl. Morgan was not able to take the field in the 3rd and final T20I against the Aussies. But the World Cup winning England captain will be back leading the side against Aaron Finch’s team in the first of the three ODIs at Old Trafford on Friday.

Both the England and Australian cricketers have been spending time in the bio-bubble environment at Manchester and Southampton. Most of cricketers from both sides will travel to UAE immediately after the conclusion of the series on September 16 to play in the IPL 2020. It will kind of entering into one bio-bubble into another. England captain Eoin Morgan who will be seen playing for the Kinght Riders this season in the cash rich league feels it will be a lot better that the bio-bubble atmosphere in Southampton and Manchester.

“I think it’s going to be an easier challenge than staying at Southampton and Manchester because the hotels are on the ground. The hotel we are staying in Abu Dhabi is nowhere near the ground. It overlooks a beach and is cool. So I think managing into that might be a little better,” said Morgan during his virtual press conference at Old Trafford on Thursday.

It will be a lot different environment in UAE compared to the bio-bubble in England. The players had to stay alone as families were not allowed in Southampton and Manchester. But during the IPL most franchises have given permission to its overseas cricketers to bring their families in UAE. Morgan too will be accompanied by his family in Abu Dhabi.

According to Morgan, “The fact that families are allowed into the bio-secure bubble it makes a huge difference. So a lot more positive things than potentially the bubble that we have been,” said Morgan.
