IPL 2020: ‘First and final warning for 2020’: Ashwin warns non-strikers not to back up too far

XtraTime Web Desk: Delhi Capitals made easy work for themselves as they comprehensively beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs to go on top of the IPL 2020 points table on Monday. It was a thorough team effort from Shreyas Iyer’s team with everyone making useful contributions.

The game also involved an interesting incident when DC off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin refrained from running out Aaron Finch at the non-striker’s end. In the third over of the RCB innings, opener Aaron Finch was backing up too far at the bowler’s end, but Ashwin didn’t try to ‘Mankad’ him and let him off with a glare. The incident even brought smiles on the face of DC Coach Ricky Ponting at the dugout. But the off spinner later made it clear that it was the first official warning from him in this IPL 2020. Next time a batsman backs up too far at the bowler’s end, he may have to repeat ‘Mankad’ and hoped he is not blamed for it.

Here is the tweet from Ravichandran Ashwin, “Let’s make it clear!! First and final warning for 2020. I am making it official and don’t blame me later on.”

In the IPL 2019, Ashwin had Mankaded Jos Buttler, and his actions were criticised by quite a few cricketers, including DC’s current coach Ricky Ponting. The duo also had a chat about it before the start of the tournament, with Ponting backing the idea of “run penalty” to stop the batsman from taking unfair advantage at the non-striker’s end.
