IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets, the wait for KKR continues

Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore.

XtraTime Web Desk: Delhi Capitals on Monday beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets and sealed their position in the top 2 of this year’s IPL’s points table. On the other hand, RCB though lost but qualified for the playoffs for having a better run rate than Kolkata Knight Riders.

Batting first, RCB put up a total of 152 runs for 7 wickets. Devdutt Padikkal scored 50 runs and AB De Villiers contributed 35 of 21 balls. Anrich Nortje took 3 wickets for Delhi while Kagiso Rabada took 2 for the team.

It was an easy target for Delhi Capitals to chase down but if they would have done it within 17.3 overs then Kolkata Knight Riders would have qualified for playoffs as RCB’s net run-rate then would have been dropped lower than KKR’s but Delhi failed. They played brilliantly as both Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane scored a half-century. Dhawan scored 54 of 41 deliveries while Rahane scored 60 of 46 balls. Delhi Capitals chased the total within 19th over and sealed their position in the top 2 of points table.

Anrich Nortje was chosen as the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling. After receiving his award, Nortje said, “Coming into this game, small things started feeling better and I think those small things, once you get that right, you get your rhythm. We were thinking to make them hit to the bigger boundary and stick to our plans against each batsmen”.

To explain their death overs, Nortje said, “There was little bit dew at the end of our innings and we tried not to be predictable. Yorker would have been the obvious option and we wanted to change it and see how it goes and wanted to hit the hard length. Having a bit of extra pace always helps”.

The winning captain Shreyas Iyer said, “Very chuffed with the performance. We knew it was a do-or-die and an opportunity for us to get to the second spot”.

Captain Shreyas Iyer was also very happy with his bowling lineup. He said, “The bowlers were really up with their plans and they knew what they had to execute. Nortje was really good and it worked out pretty well. Kudos to the way the bowlers bowled.”

The losing captain Virat Kohli in the post match conference said, “We are happy that we’ve qualified. Top two would’ve been really very nice. But I think we’ve played good enough cricket to earn a qualification spot”. Kohli added, “We’ve got two games to reach the final. We have a shot, an opportunity and that’s all we want as a team. I’m sure the guys will be excited about what’s ahead for us”.

Virat Kohli also shared where he thinks the problem is for Royal Challengers Bangalore. “We can be more more brave with the bat in pockets. With the ball, we were decent, probably we could have a strong Powerplay which is our strength. If we implement those things, we’ll be at the right end of the result. It’s important to stay positive”.
