IPL 2020: At least 36 top international cricketers are likely to miss the first week action
Xtra Time Web Desk: As many as 36 top international cricketers will miss the first week action of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) in UAE. The cash rich league will be staged in the Middle East from September 19-November 08 due to the rising cases of coronavirus pandemic in India.
A total of 125 Indian and 62 foreign cricketers will be seen in action for eight franchises in IPL 2020.
But due to the current Covid19 crisis in the last 3 weeks, 36 of top 62 international cricketers will miss the first week action.
With the international borders still not open, there is a big question mark for South African cricketers to join the cash rich league in time. International flights from South Africa are yet to resume as there is still travel ban. It depends whether the franchises can organize any charter flights for the pickup of the South African cricketers.
Australian and English cricketers will be involved in a series between them in England in September. The players cannot leave UK until the third and final ODI at Old Trafford on September 16. They will be made to go through compulsory quarantine norms of the UAE Government and can only be allowed to move out if their COVID-19 tests come negative.
Two Sri Lankan cricketers in IPL 2020 – Lasith Malinga and Isuru Udana is also likely to arrive late for the IPL because of their involvement in Lanka Premier League.
