IPL 2020: Ajinkya Rahane likely to move to Delhi Capitals from Rajasthan Royals

XtraTime Web Desk: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals is all set to rope in Ajinkya Rahane to play for them in next year’s cash rich league. The former Royals captain will be traded to the Delhi franchise in exchange of two players.

It is learnt negotiations are going between the two franchises to trade Delhi Capital’s Mayank Markande and Rahul Tewatia with Rajsthan’s Ajinkya Rahane.

Even though both the franchises remained tight-lipped on the issue, sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) say that an official statement in this regard will be released soon.

Rahane, who have captained Royals for two seasons, has a price tag of INR 4 crore. But he (Rahane) was stripped off captaincy after 8 games last season, and the role went to Australian Steve Smith. It is also learnt that the negotiations started a couple of months back when Sourav Ganguly was the advisor of the Delhi Capitals. In fact it was Ganguly’s suggestion to get Ravichandran Ashwin also in the squad for next season. The Delhi Capitals management roped in the Indian off spinner last week. So in that sense it will be the second biggest trading this year.

With the addition of Rahane, it will no doubt strengthen the batting of Delhi Capitals. With Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari already in the squad, the batting will look even stronger with the inclusion of Rahane.
Even though Delhi has roped in Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahane, it has been learnt that the franchise is set to retain Shreyas Iyer as its captain for the upcoming season.
