IPL 2019: Kieron Pollard dedicates his match winning knock to a special person

XtraTime Web Desk: Mumbai Indians stand in Captain Kieron Pollard dedicated his match winning effort (83 runs off 31 balls) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) clash against Kings XI Punjab to his wife Jenna who celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, April 10. Jenna was in the stands at Wankhede stadium with son Kaiden, witnessing her husband helping Mumbai achieve a next to impossible run chase.

“I would like to thank God. Need to thank him for giving strength to me for doing the things that I do. Also love to thank my wife, it’s her birthday today and I want to dedicate this to her,” said the Trinidadian.

Both Pollard and Jenna got married on August 25, 2012 after a long relationship they had for seven years. Jenna plays a big part in Pollard’s life as she accompanies him on almost every tour and cheers him.

The hugely built Caribbean played a devastating knock to take Mumbai Indians home, chasing a daunting target of 198 runs to win in 20 overs. Pollard’s innings was studded with three fours and ten lusty hits into the stands.

Pollard, who replaced Rohit Sharma as MI captain promoted him up the batting order. Talking about his decision, he said, “I went up the order because I enjoy batting at Wankhede. Plan was to attack Ashwin as spin wasn’t doing great. We finished on the right end of the result and thanks to God for that to.”

The big hitting batsman was asked to lead Mumbai Indians as regular captain Rohit Sharma was rested due to precautionary measures because of muscle spasms.

“Obviously, Rohit is the captain of the team and it was only a precautionary measure for the team. He should be back in the next game. I would gladly give it back to him and field at the boundary, while also thinking of what to contribute to the team,” signed off Pollard.

The win took Mumbai Indians to the third position in the IPL points table.
