Debasis Sen, Kolkata: A dejected Shah Rukh Khan preferred not to stay back till the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday as his team surrendered to a 102 runs loss to Mumbai Indians. The Knight Riders owner was seen leaving the Eden Gardens moments after the fall of the eighth wicket in the 17th over of KKR innings. Later the Bollywood Badshah apologized to the fans for the lack of spirit shown by his players on the ground. Shah Rukh tweeted, “Sports is about the spirit & wins/losses don’t reflect that. But tonite as the ‘Boss’ I need to apologise to the fans for the lack of spirit.”

It was indeed a terrible performance, for which Shah Rukh Khan felt the need to apologise. The loss will not only hurt Dinesh Karthik’s men but the purple army also dropped to fifth spot owing to inferior run rate. Mumbai Indians produced a brilliant bowling and fielding performance after Ishan Kishan’s blitzkrieg of 21 ball 62 runs set the platform for a daunting total of 210/6. Kishan’s knock was studded with five fours and six sixes, and then bowled KKR out for 108 in 18.1 overs. Earlier Shah Rukh announced on his twitter handle that he will be present at the Eden Gardens to cheer his team and he would expect the loudest cheers from the fans.

But that was not to be as he was welcomed into the Eden Gardens by young Mumbai keeper/batsman Ishan Kishan as he hit Kuldeep Yadav for four consecutive sixes. Later towards the end of Mumbai innings, the KKR owner looked visibly disappointed as Ben Cutting cut loose to take the Mumbai Indians innings well past the 200 run mark.

The win took Mumbai in the fourth position of the table. They also extended their win loss ratio over Knight Riders to 18:5. Such has been the dominance of Mumbai over Kolkata over the years.
