Cummins' historic moment came as he dismissed Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib, clinching his second hat-trick of the tournament. His first hat-trick had been secured in Australia's opening Super 8 match against Bangladesh. Against Afghanistan, Cummins took Rashid Khan's wicket with the final ball of the 18th over and then proceeded to dismiss Janat and Naib with the first two deliveries of the 20th over.
