Kolkata: Indian test opener Shikhar Dhawan suffered an injury to his left thumb after being hit by a Trent Boult delivery on the third days play of the second test match at Eden Gardens on Sunday. The opener was rushed to a city hospital for X-ray. The reports revealed the left hander had a slight crack in his thumb. It meant he will be doubtful for the third test match at Indore. Earlier other opener KL Rahul was also ruled out due to an injury sustained in the first test match in Kanpur.

Earlier, Dhawan continued his woeful form with the bat. He was seen struggling against New Zealand fast bowlers Boult and Henry. He eventually was trapped leg before to Boult after scoring just 17 runs.

Before being hit on the thumb, Dhawan also took a blow on his shoulder off the same bowler. In the first innings, he dragged a Matt Henry ball back onto his stumps with hardly any movement of the feet after scoring just one.

With Lokesh Rahul too ruled out because of a hamstring injury, India might be forced to draft in Gautam Gambhir into the playing XI if Dhawan goes on to miss the final Test match.
