Debasis Sen, Colombo: It has been over a week since the controversy surrounding Mohammed Shami surfaced following the cricketer’s wife making serious allegations against him. The Bengal speedster now finds himself entangled in one of the darkest phases of his life. Shami’s world came crashing down over the past week with his wife Hasin Jahan pressing damning charges against him and the family.

Hasin Jahan has heaped allegations that suddenly makes the soft-spoken 28-year-old look like a demonic character — a “two-faced” womaniser, guilty of domestic violence and trying to murder his wife, a pervert of sorts with even insinuations of him being capable of ‘match-fixing.’

The allegations if proved might be enough to put an end to Shami’s career. The cricketer has already found himself not finding any favour from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as he has been left out of the Central contracts. The fast bowler’s participation in the Indian Premier League also looks to be in serious doubts. His franchise Delhi Daredevils is waiting for direction from the Indian cricket board on his availability.

The Indian cricketers here in Colombo seem to have also distanced themselves with Shami. The fast bowler was very recently sharing the dressing room along with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzuvendra Chahal, Shardul Thakur and Dinesh Karthik in South Africa. But as it stands for now, the cricketers are tight lipped on Shami issue here. The cricketers have been briefed by the team management here in Colombo to stay away from Shami issue.

As things stand, Indian cricket will have to do without one of its committed servants for now. The fast bowler has had a meteoric rise ever since making a debut for India against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens. Shami had impressed everyone with his lovely action, ability to move the ball both ways and the art of reverse swing over the last five years. But then, the fast bowler from Amroah clearly has different priorities at the moment!
