Indian girl bags gold at Asian Continental Blitz Chess Championship

Internet Desk: R Vaishali of India won the prestigious women’s title after she registered eight points from playing a total of nine rounds at the Asian Continental Blitz Chess Championship in China.

She won seven games and played two draws in the nine- round event held at Chengdu.

Vaishali played her final game against Uurtsaikh Uuriintuya of Mongolia and register her a draw which gave her a 0.5 point lead over Sarasdat Khademalsharieh of Iran and won the gold medal.

Her fellow Indian Padmini Rout finished third after having seven points after she won her last round game against China’s Yuxin Song.

The Chennai player with an ELO rating of 2203 had finished third in the Asian Championship event on Friday.

The other Indians, however, couldn’t make much of an impression with Soumya Swaminathan (5.5 points) taking the 12th spot and Mary Ann Gomes, who finished fourth in the classical format, settled for the 16th spot.
