Xtra Time Web Desk : Team India better Virat Kohli on Thursday spoke out for the first time ahead of his 100th Test match or the first Test of the two match series against Sri Lanka.

In a video that the BCCI posted on Twitter, the 33 year old shared his thoughts about the milestone match which is going to take place at Mohali from March 4.

According to Kohli, "I honestly never thought that I'll play 100 Test Matches. It's been a long journey. Played a lot of cricket. Played a lot of international cricket through the course of these 100 Test matches. Lot of international cricket. So I'm just grateful that I've been able to make it to 100. God has been kind. I've worked really hard on my fitness. It's a big moment for me, my family for my coach who's also very happy and proud of this Test match as long as I'm concerned. So yeah it's a very very special moment for me,"

Also opening up about his thoughts about Test cricket, the former India captain said, "Personally never grew up thinking that I've to score small runs. The idea was to score huge runs. I scored a lot of big double hundreds in junior cricket. I think 7 or 8 before I made it to the first class level. So my idea was basically to bat long as long as I could. And I used to really enjoy batting long periods of time and really bat sessions and try to win a game of cricket for my team. Try to get 2 points or the first innings lead was the format that we used to follow,"

"So these things were things that really took a lot out of you. Revealed your true character, tested your true character. And Something that I thoroughly enjoyed. And I just felt like test cricket needed to stay alive because people need to experience this. This is for me real cricket," concluded the Delhi batter.
