Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a big development, former India cricketer and currently the Director of National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman will take the role of coach for the T20 series against South Africa and Ireland. With the Indian test squad leaving for England on June 15, Laxman will step in to take the role of coach in place of Rahul Dravid.

BCCI will select two separate squads for India vs South Africa T20 Series & India tour of England. The two teams will also have separate coaching staff specifically for the two T20 series. Laxman is tipped to coach the India T20 squad, comprising of second-string players based on the performances of ongoing IPL 2022 season. The T20 squad will be most likely led by Shikhar Dhawan.

The selectors will meet on the eve of IPL Playoffs in Mumbai to pick the two squads. Most senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will be rested for the T20 series against South Africa, in order to keep them fresh for the test match against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham starting from July 1.

Last year, India had two squads playing simultaneously in England and in Sri Lanka. This time though, they will not play simultaneously.
