India tour to England 2022: BCCI requests ECB for warm up match before Edgbaston test match

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested its counterpart England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to arrange for a warm up match ahead of the Edgbaston test starting from July 01.

Rohit Sharma led India will be travelling to England next month on June 15. The Indian team management has requested the BCCI to hold talks with ECB to arrange a four day warm up game ahead of the test match at Edgbaston. It is learnt that the touring Indian team will get a four-day game against a Select County XI.

The reason why the ECB still hasn’t officially confirmed one is because of the Vitality Blast and County Championship which will run simultaneously. It will be difficult to get the top players for the warm up fixture.

Last time when ECB arranged a warm-up match, they failed to put up 11 players and hence Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan had to turn up for the Select County XI. The Indian cricket board wants to avoid such a situation.

As per information available, England will be busy hosting New Zealand and hence it is unlikely a top player will be available for the warm up match. India is also supposed to play two T20 warm-up matches on July 1 and 3. While the ECB confirmed that last month, BCCI is tight-lipped on the schedule.
