India tour to Australia 2020-21: This stadium can host Virat Kohli and his team for the first time

Metricon Stadium in Queensland can host any matches during the ODI or T20I series between India and Australia later this year.

Xtra Time Web Desk: Metricon Stadium in Queensland can play host to any of the white ball games between India and Australia during the forthcoming series later this year. Traditionally Gabba in Brisbane is a regular venue for any international fixture. But according to a report in Cricbuzz, Virat Kohli & Co will play the second leg of the white-ball segment of their Australian tour in Queensland’s renowned beach destination after starting off in the state capital. It is still not confirmed though if Metricon stadium does gets an opportunity or not to host the Indians this summer. The venue in the Gold Coast has hosted only a solitary international game to date – a T20I against South Africa in 2018.

It is still not clear whether Virat and his boys will start off their two month tour with T20 series or ODI series as Cricket Australia is yet to officially announce the itinerary. Even as they continue to face pressure from the broadcasters, Cricket Australia maintain that they’re only waiting for clearances and exemptions from the Australian government to announce the full schedule, which will include four Tests following three ODIs and three T20Is.

The 58 member Indian contingent, which includes players and team management staff, is expected to disembark next month in Brisbane, where they will quarantine for two weeks.

The venues for the four Tests also seem more or less finalised. The series is set to begin with a day-night pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval starting on December 17. If the pandemic situation does not improve considerably in Victoria, the Boxing Day test scheduled to take place at the MSG might have to be shifted to Adelaide. The third Test of the series is slated to be at the SCG with the final test being played at the Gabba.
