Xtra Time Web Desk: Ace India pacer Ishant Sharma looks to be in serious doubts for the tour to Australia next month. The Delhi fast bowler tore his abdominal muscle while training for Delhi Capitals in Dubai. He has already been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League season (IPL 2020). Looking at the stature of the injury, the experienced fast bowler looks in serious doubts to tour Down Under next month.

According to the sources, the nature of injury can put Ishant out of action for close to 6-7 weeks. As per the release sent by the Delhi Capitals, it said, “Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of left rib cage pain while bowling at a team training session on 7 October in Dubai. Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear. This injury will unfortunately rule him out of the remainder of the IPL 2020.”

Ishant was considered as one of the most important cog in Virat Kohli’s test team along with Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. The Delhi Capitals bowler is just three wickets away from claiming 300 test wickets milestone. His last Test match was in New Zealand earlier this year when he took a five-wicket haul in the first innings but again because of injury could not participate in rest of the tour.

Meanwhile the Senior Selection Committee is likely to meet on 20th October to pick Indian team for the tour

to Australia. With Bhuvneshwar & Ishant injured now, selectors will have their task cut out to select right partners for Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami for the test matches. Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini are likely to be considered as replacements if Ishant fails to recover on time after his rehab.

The only hope for Ishant is he will get considerable time to get back to fitness, considering the test series will be followed after the ODI and T20I series. Whether that will be enough time for Ishant to recover from his injury or not, only time will tell.
